Pad Printing is a technique in which a silicone pad is used to imprint a logo onto an item. It is one of the most commonly used printing techniques, as it allows for a sharper finish, with Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors.
How does pad printing work?
In this technique, the logo is etched onto a metal plate, also known as a cliché, and then transferred using the silicone pad, sometimes referred to as a “pad,” and stamped onto the desired item. To achieve an image with multiple colours, each colour must be printed separately.
To better understand this printing technique, we have provided this short video:
What are the advantages of choosing pad printing?
- Versatility: Because it is made of silicone, the pad can adapt to a wide variety of surfaces, allowing for marking on curved or cylindrical objects such as bottles and pens, as well as other irregular surfaces. Also, due to its shape, pad printing can accommodate different small-sized logos.
- Economical: Pad printing is one of the most cost-effective engraving techniques. Similar to other techniques, with a high number of units, we can achieve high optimization and consequently a lower price. Therefore, it is a technique with a good quality-price ratio, providing an excellent finish.
- Quality: In addition to the possibility of using four colour,s pad printing has the benefit of being able to print fine and bold lines with high and crisp quality.
Are there any disadvantages?
- Durability: Although pad printing can last a long time, certain conditions make this technique less durable. Daily use and washing of items such as bottles or glasses can cause the customization to fade. Therefore, it is necessary to be careful with items that may undergo more wear and tear in order to maintain the quality of the print.
- Material Adaptation: Depending on the material of the chosen items, there will always be a more suitable technique to achieve a better finish and durability. For materials such as metal or wood, for example, we recommend laser engraving.
